James Bradley, a/k/a "Abdullah," and Arwa Muthana were arrested in March 2021 at a seaport in Newark, New Jersey with attempting and conspiring to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham ("ISIS"). As alleged in the Complaint, Bradley, who resides in the Bronx, New York, has expressed his support for ISIS and his desire to join the group overseas or commit a terrorist attack in the United States. He and his wife Muthana, of Alabama, who has also expressed her support for ISIS, were arrested while attempting to travel together by cargo ship to the Middle East to join and fight for ISIS. Both Bradley and Muthana pleaded guilty in September 2022 to attempting to provide material support to ISIS. Bradley and Muthana were sentenced to 11 and nine years in prison, respectively, for attempting to provide material support to ISIS.
