USA v. Farhat, Ali

June 2025
Hizballah

[EDVA] A federal grand jury charged a dual U.S.-Lebanese citizen with conspiracy to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization and conspiracy to launder money. According to the indictment, Ali Farhat, owned and operated a Lebanese company, identified in court records as Company 1, that acquired electronics equipment in the United States and resold it to other entities located primarily in the Middle East and Africa. As alleged in the indictment, one of Farhat's customers was Al Manar TV, a television station based in Lebanon that is owned and operated by Hizballah, which was designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization on Oct. 8, 1997, by the U.S. Secretary of State. Al Manar TV was designed to cultivate support for Hizballah by, among other things, raising money for its activities and recruiting volunteers for future attacks.
