[SDNY] Ahmed Abdulkadir Warsame was indicted on charges of providing material support to Al Shabaab and Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). Warsame, a Somali national, was captured in the Gulf region by the U.S. military. The indictment also charged Warsame with brokering a weapons deal with AQAP on behalf of Al Shabaab. Warsame allegedly received explosives and other military-type training from the AQAP in Yemen. Warsame pleaded guilty to providing material support to both al Shabaab and AQAP in December 2011. The guilty plea was unsealed in March 2013.
