[SDOH] Christopher Lee Cornell was charged with attempted killing of a U.S. government official and with possession of a firearm in furtherance of an attempted crime of violence. He was subsequently charged in a superseding indictment of providing material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). Cornell pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to kill government employees, one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence and one count of attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison for plotting, planning and attempting an attack on government officials during the State of the Union Address in 2015 in the name of ISIL.
