[DMD] Mohamaed Elshinawy of Edgewood, Maryland, was arrested in December 2015 and charged with attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). According to the complaint, Elshinawy allegedly received money from individuals overseas to be used for "operational purposes" in the United States. He also lied to the FBI and concealed his support for ISIL, the complaint said. Elshinawy pleaded guilty to conspiring to provide material support to ISIS. He received payments from a foreign company totaling $8,700 to be used to fund a terrorist attack in the U.S. Elshinawy was sentenced to 20 years for providing material support to ISIS and terrorism financing.
