[EDVA] Joseph Hassan Farrokh, who is a U.S. citizen originally from Pennsylvania, has been charged with attempting to provide material support and resources to ISIL, a designated foreign terrorist organization. Mahmoud Amin Mohamed Elhassan, who is a legal permanent U.S. resident originally from Sudan, has been charged with aiding and abetting Farrokh's attempt to provide material support and resources to a designated foreign terrorist organization. Farrokh was sentenced to 102 months in prison for attempting to travel to Syria to support ISIL. Elhassan pleaded guilty to attempting to help a terrorist group and giving false statements to the FBI. Elhassan was sentenced to 11 years in prison and 10 years supervised release for attempting to provide material support to ISIL.
